What Is Biofiller? PRF Gel, Bio-PRF and EZ Gel Explained
REGENERATIVE AESTHETICS
You may have heard the terms biofiller, PRF gel, Bio-PRF, or EZ Gel while researching natural-looking facial rejuvenation. They are related, but they are not interchangeable names for one identical treatment. Understanding the differences can help you ask better questions during a consultation.
What Is Biofiller?
Biofiller is a general term often used for an injectable gel prepared from a patient's own blood components. In some protocols, plasma albumin is heated to form a gel and then combined with a platelet-rich preparation. It is discussed as an option for subtle, temporary soft-tissue support rather than dramatic reshaping.
PRP vs. PRF: What's the Difference?
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma; PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin. Both are derived from a blood draw, but their processing methods and resulting preparations differ. PRF includes a fibrin component, while PRP is typically a liquid platelet-rich preparation. Neither term alone guarantees that the material has been transformed into an injectable biofiller gel.
Where Do Bio-PRF and EZ Gel Fit In?
Bio-PRF is a branded technology platform used to prepare blood-derived products. Its Bio-Filler protocol includes preparing an albumin gel and combining it with PRF. EZ Gel is another branded blood-derived gel preparation system. Both names appear in discussions of autologous gel treatments, but their equipment, protocols, and evidence should not be assumed identical.
At MajorGlow Med Spa, we use Bio-PRF technology. We mention EZ Gel here to clarify a term patients may recognize from their research—not to suggest that MajorGlow offers the EZ Gel branded system.
Is Biofiller the Same as Dermal Filler?
Not quite. Conventional hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are manufactured injectable gels with established product-specific characteristics and indications. Blood-derived biofiller preparations are individualized, and their consistency, amount of volume support, and duration may vary. Evidence for cosmetic biofiller use is still developing, so dramatic or guaranteed results should not be expected.
Could Biofiller Help With Under-Eye Hollows?
Some providers evaluate blood-derived gel treatments for selected facial areas, including the under-eye region. But hollowness, pigmentation, visible vessels, puffiness, and skin laxity can all contribute to a tired appearance. Because the under-eye is a delicate injection area, proper assessment and an individualized safety discussion are essential.
Choosing the Right Approach
The most useful question is not which brand name sounds more familiar, but what preparation is being used, who is performing the procedure, what evidence supports the proposed use, and whether the treatment fits your anatomy and goals.
